The Basic Principles of Branding
Branding is one of the most important elements to any business. Without a brand you cannot create customer loyalty, which will keep your profits from flourishing. It is more beneficial to keep a customer than to find ten new ones, which should show you just how crucial establishing a brand really is. It will also make you recognizable in a crowd, which will draw in new customers that will, in turn, become loyal shoppers of your product or service.
But it is one thing to know what branding is; it is another to know how to do it. The main thing is knowing the principles behind it, so you can begin creating a plan for marketing your business. Each one is another step that you have to check off before you know you are making the progress necessary to becoming a recognizable brand.
Know Your Brand
If you don’t know what your brand is in and out how can you expect your customers to? You need to make sure you have a product that fits in with the image and purpose of your business, and that you know just where it is going. Have a plan for everything you sell, and don’t create a product without being established with every other you have already sold.
Market it Cleverly
I want you to take a moment to think of five well known products you know. What comes to mind first? Chances are, you remember the logo, marketing phrase, or something used to advertise. A clever tagline will win out over ever performance in a product every time. It is important to be clever when it comes to your advertising, as this is as much a part of a brand as the product itself.
Keep the Idea Consistent
Change is sometimes necessary, and it can be great to make little shifts to a product to keep it fresh for the consumer. However, you should always be consistent when it comes to the quality, type, and foundation of a product. If you change too much you will be unable to brand it, as it will become something altogether different, and no longer recognizable as the original. And being recognizable is what it is all about.
Be Fluid With the Times
As times change so do the needs of the public. While they will usually need the same basic product that makes up the foundation of your service, the features and outer shell may change (see above). While consistency is important, so is being fluid enough to make the necessary adjustments to stay relevant. This is especially important when pushing your brand against a competitors.
Give Them Something Special
You have to be a pinnacle of trust above other brands to keep a customer happy. But you have to work for more than just quality in this case. You also need to know how to reward your customers for coming back. Coupons, sales, buy one get one, free gifts, discounts, quality customer service, promotions…these are all things you can do to show your gratitude. If they feel cared for, the customer will always return.
