Business Basics: How Business Cards Are Still Relevant

The world has moved into a digital age, and as such many businesses are taking their campaigns online, relying on the world wide web to do their marketing for them. But if you are relying on the net completely, you are losing potential business. You are also losing the chance to create customer loyalty, and attract that market that exists right outside your front door.

So, what can you do to get to this important customer base? Try doing things the old fashioned way, and relying on face to face marketing to get you the clients you need. Business cards are a traditional and effective way of doing this. People will carry a business card in their wallet for weeks, sometimes months, and when they find themselves in need of a service their minds will often go to that card before anything else. This is an effective means of branding that can really benefit your business, especially as a small of medium sized business that doesn’t have a large budget for advertising.

Last week, we talked about the importance of finding a niche market to establish your small business in. Today, we will touch on why, and how, you have to find a target market to advertise to. This is more than creating a general idea of who might be interested. Instead, you will be narrowing down to a select group for each product, and sticking with that group until you have earned enough to expand.

Avoid wasting efforts on non-target audience

Finding THE niche for your business

Posted in Marketing November 3rd, 2009 by admin - Be the first to comment

A few years ago I started my first business: selling fashion jewelries only. I had absolutely no experience in either jewelry or online business and boy I wondered how the business could lasted that long after all the mistakes I made. Anyhow, one of the most basic mistake I made was trying to satisfy everyone: I tried to build up stocks that would satisfy the needs of all types of customers, it’s not a surprise that I couldn’t impress anyone. All that money, effort and time went out of the window was not completely wasted however, I did get one very important lesson: You have to concentrate your capital, or what they usually say in marketing courses: Finding your niche (I wish I took those courses before *_*)

Over the years the term ‘niche marketing’ has gotten a rather bad reputation. It tends to conjure images of shifty online businessmen attempting to sell programs that promise to make you millions in a few short months, and to give you everything you need to create a successful company with no work. But this is an unfair generalization that has undermined a basic principle of business for far too long. It has also left many company owners struggling to make end’s meet as their ventures fail.

Viral Marketing & Link Bait Basic: Part III

Last week we touched on the subject of your target audience, namely knowing who they are, and giving them what they will want. Today we will expand on that concept, and discuss the different groups that make up the satirically named ‘Linkerati’. These elite members of the Internet are the main focus of linkbaiters and viral marketers, as they are the hubs from which information is most widely spread. Think of these people as the center of a spiders web, with each strand spinning from that middle point, moving out into a wider and wider circle. The idea behind a member of the Linkerati is that they own powerful websites, blogs, or positions of information sharing. They are separate from the average webmaster whose site may or many not rank high in Google ratings, or receive a wide amount of traffic on a daily basis. They are a source for people to go to for information, entertainment, or services. From there, other Internet users will pass content along, ensuring it is seem by the highest number of people possible. Some of these Linkerati include:

Best use of top level domain for multinational businesses

Posted in SEO Tips September 30th, 2009 by admin - Comments (1)

A top-level domain or domain name (TLD) is the highest level of domain names in the root zone of the Domain Name System of the Internet. For all domains in lower levels, it is the last part of the domain name, that is, the label that follows the last dot of a fully qualified domain name. For example, in the domain name www.example.com, the top-level domain is com, or COM, as domain names are not case-sensitive (Wikipedia). There has been a continuing problem with the Internet in recent years, and that problem is trying to figure out exactly what TLD’s should be used for what type of website. For many people this doesn’t matter to them, other than the inconvenience of trying to remember whether is a .com (a TLD once meant for businesses), a .org (a TLD once used for non-profit organizations), and an International domain, such as .cn, .ca., .ly, or a multitude of others.

In the end the whole process of using a specific TLD in a URL has become a moot point…no one actually pays attention to the original meanings, and just buys whatever domain they feel will be most profitable for their venture. But skipping away from the usual Internet users, let’s look at the people that this problem does effect: those that are looking to create a site full of content that is available on an International scale, but easily picked up by search engines.

This is where the real problem begins. There are three different options you have in this situation, and each one has it’s up and downsides. In the end, you have to look at the three choices you have and decide which one will end up being most beneficial to your situation and desires. Keep in mind that no one will offer you the perfect solution, and that is just an unfortunate consequence of using International content for SEO. But you can create major improvements, which is still all you can hope for in most facets of SEO.

Viral Marketing & Link Bait Basic: Part II

Posted in SEO News and Analysis September 24th, 2009 by admin - Be the first to comment

Last week we took some time to look at exactly what linkbait is, and how it works within the context of viral marketing. We learned that linkbaiting was the process of creating any kind of content as a means of attracting links, and so increasing traffic to a particular website. We also learned that viral marketing is an important tool for linkbaiters, as the very natural of viral marketing is to be shared among a large number of people.

Today, we are going to look at some of the basic rules that you will want to follow when attempting to linkbait. These are all important guidelines, specifically because creating content for the sake of links will often cause webmasters to delete and ban your content long before it reaches a target audience. If you don’t do it right, you might as well not do it at all. Taking all the necessary precautions will bring in a lot of work, but not a lot of results.
